What is Amazon Prime Day?
Amazon Prime Day is Amazon’s own-brand sale which was started back in 2015 to celebrate their 20th anniversary. It’s been going ever since, and Prime Day now sees Prime members benefit from the lowest prices of the year across many products, followed only by the brand’s Black Friday event which, unlike Prime Day, is not owned by the brand.
How can I take part in Amazon Prime Day 2023?
You have to be an Amazon Prime member (or on a 30-day free trial) to take part in Amazon Prime Day. Prime membership costs £8.99 a month or £95 for a year, and signing up will make you eligible for other benefits – including free delivery and access to Prime video – way past Amazon Prime Day.
How often do Amazon have Prime Days?
Typically, Amazon Prime Day happens once a year around summertime but, in 2023, the brand have announced a second event in October, otherwise known as Prime Big Deal Days. Outside of these special Prime-exclusive days, Amazon usually run a big reduction spree (like most other brands) over the Black Friday or ‘cyber’ weekend, so if you miss out on the reductions this Tuesday 10th and Wednesday 11th October, fret not, because the November sale-to-rival-all-others is less than one month away. Not to mention it’s likely Amazon will once again cut prices post-Christmas, so you can get stocked up on exercise bikes, wellness journals and everything in between ahead of the new year.
What’s the big deal with Prime Day?
In my experience as a shopping editor, working both the Black Friday and Prime Day sales for several years now, I’d argue that the Prime Day sales offer buyers more substantial reductions on the trending items they’ve been lusting after. Think: De’longhi do-it-all coffee machines, Beats noise cancelling headphones and the like.
Meanwhile, Black Friday – given its non-Amazon-specific remit – sits on the Amazon site as more of a pre-Christmas ‘bargain’ hub. This means high-ticket items, such as TVs, Fire tablets and the like, will more often than not be reduced but, as I say, you’ll be less likely to find deals on the products of the moment. Think: Antler suitcases and Emma mattresses. After all, come Black Friday those products can be reduced on the retailers’ own sites.
